You’ve been informed by your child’s pediatrician that your adolescent has an eating disorder and don’t know where to start and what you need to know; overwhelmed with your child’s emotions and can’t get them to eat, desperately trying to avoid PHP, IOP or residential treatment (what does THAT entail?). Why can’t they just get over this and just eat?!
I want you to know it’s OK to want to lose weight.
I’m here to help and support you with what is going to WORK (hint: its NOT restrictive dieting with a goal of losing 2 pounds a week!) and WHY. Let’s get this 4-letter word ‘DIET’ out of your vocabulary. Let’s get you out of the amusement park of weight loss, especially the “diet roller coaster.” Oh, and by the way–stay away from the “funhouse mirrors” ;those mirrors are NOT reality.
You have tried all the diets and feel like you can't keep cycling through diet trends. You are frustrated with various nutrition advice from the media. Or you have been told by someone to "just eat less" with no other information or support?
Here is what empowerment can look like:
Parents and Caregivers
✔️ My child is back!
✔️ Plating your child’s food, knowing they’ll eat every morsel you provided
✔️ Navigating intense emotions with confidence, compassion and calmness
✔️ Finding a solid eating disorder treatment team and understanding each member’s role (including yours!)
Chronic Dieters
✔️ Knowing the diet failed you, you’re not a failure
✔️ Appreciating your metabolism and its amazing complexity
✔️ Prioritizing self care and reducing stress
✔️ Forming solid lifelong habits because you know only these support behavior change
I’ve helped hundreds of families and caregivers renourish their child to HEALTH and back on their way to LIFE. I know there is so much to know and understand about eating disorders; it's difficult to know where to start. I often see many parents and caregivers feel lost in the process and quickly lose hope. I have seen way too often that once parents and caregivers feel empowered and know the direction they need to go, they have the strength and stamina to support their child to full recovery from an eating disorder. TIME + SUPPORT + KNOWLEDGE = POSSIBLE.
Supporting those that have been dieting on and off for years is also my jam. What I’ve found is most lack understanding and have been greatly misled by the dieting industry (think billion dollar profit per year!). Most walk away from a diet feeling like a failure, which is EXACTLY what the diet industry wants. It's how they make their money: from you feeling bad and THEIR DIETS FAILING YOU. Believe me, I’ve worked in the industry and know the “tricks of the trade.”
